Wildpark Gangelt

Experience European wildlife up close

Gangelt Wildlife Park is an ideal destination for families, particularly in the summer. In the approximately 50-hectare woodland area, you can observe a large number of European wild animals in a natural environment. In the shade of ancient trees, you’ll encounter bison, moose, ibex, red deer and fallow deer, chamois and many more species. Predators such as lynx, wolves, bears and pine martens can be observed particularly well from raised platforms.

But that’s just the start! Join us on a fascinating journey through the park and learn more about the lifestyles and habits of our animals during our large-scale feeding sessions, which take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Our dedicated animal keepers Jana and Florian are happy to share exciting stories about marmots, otters, wildcats, minks, pine martens, lynxes and deer. They meet at 3.45 pm every day at the entrance to the falconry.

Another highlight for young and old alike is the falconry with its daily flying displays. Eagles, buzzards, kites and falcons perform impressive flight manoeuvres, whilst fascinating information is provided about the kings of the air (on weekdays during the holidays at 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm, on Sundays at 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm)

Summer is the season of the young: there are new arrivals among the ibex, chamois, red deer, fallow deer and sika deer, as well as among the wild boars. Children in particular are thrilled by the young animals and get very close to their favourites. For curious visitors, there is much to discover about the park’s plant life along the forest nature trail. Trilingual signs (German, Dutch, English) provide information about the flora and fauna. The modernised educational apiary run by the Selfkant e.V. Beekeepers’ Association rounds off the experience: in a bright room, engaging information boards tell you everything about the fascinating life of bees.

A regular feature of the summer programme is the popular puppet theatre “Papiermond”, which captivates both children and parents with its funny and exciting shows, as well as the fairy “Alisande”, who uses imaginative face paint to transform young visitors into fairies, animals or mythical creatures.
A real highlight for children is the spacious adventure playground. Here, the little ones can let off steam – climbing, balancing, swinging and sliding. The playground is naturally landscaped and offers plenty of shaded areas and seating. The kiosk serves ice cream, drinks and snacks. This ensures that a visit to the wildlife park is a thoroughly enjoyable family outing.

After a busy day, the sun terrace of the wildlife park restaurant invites you to linger for a while. While enjoying a drink or a delicious meal, you can take in the view of the surrounding enclosures and the petting zoo.
